To get across the river to Thonburi, Wat Arun Etc... There are Piers that you can catch the boats that run directly across the river and that's all they do is go back and forth. It only costs 2 baht to go on these I believe. (I may be wrong but it is very cheap regardless) Thobunri can be interesting for some wandering although it is mostly residential. There are many Tha's or Piers all along the river in Bangkok! If you need help finding one ask around. You may find someone able to help.
