"Stawell" State of Victoria Things to Do Tip by keeweechic

State of Victoria Things to Do: 159 reviews and 358 photos

Stawell is close to the Grampians and became a name when gold was founded by a shepherd in 1853. Mining began and continued until 1920 when the Union Quartz Mining Company chosed. In 1974 however, the mines were opened and are now part of Australian Goldmines. You can go out out to the mines and see the gigantic trucks and excavators in action.

This photo of the large koala is not actually a noted tourist attraction but it is part of a petrol station (next door) which we stopped at. It certainly was an eye catcher.

Directions: Close to the Grampians National Park
