Brisvegas - not quite the pumping nightlife. Though still enjoyable.
Hit the numerous Irish Bars for a relaxed atmosphere, 'City Rowers' to pick up and/or get free drinks, 'Fridays' to show off your new suit, the 'Port Office' wine bar to either pick up a guy ina suit or one of hundreds of gold diggin' females on a Friday afternoon. Upstairs has good music. Depends on the DJ and crowd though.
The 'Adrenaline Sports bar' to watch some sports on the big screen and for a fun night - though only if you have NO taste in music. The DJ should've been shot along time ago (unless of course you like the Greece soundtrack or Prince/Symbol or old Madonna tunes).
'Mary Street' alias Scary Street on a Thursday for $1 drinks. An underground basement style for addicted passive smokers. Live bands. Some good, some crap. Mainly youngsters here, so wear your brightest and tightest tops to compete gals!!!
Well there's an intersting range of places to go for the open minded. Not all clubs are gay clubs and the ones that are - The Beat, Wickham etc. are also a ball for us straighties as you can do and wear what you want for a change (yes - Brisbane City is full of rednecks who often don't appreciate 'alternative' choices). So if you're out for a relaxed good time, head to the valley.
My Fav: 'The Press Club' - NB: you'll need to look a certain calibre to get in. Basically - if you look like coke is your poison then you're in. No quite the beer drinking haven. THough - if you get in. Check out the toilet signs certainly an eye opener (excuse the pun)
Umm. I take them all back: I prefer the local pubs.... Go to the Victory on Mary Street for a good beer and a laugh
Dress Code: Guys;
All clubs (in the city) require collared shirts and covered shoes. NO sandshoes/sneakers allowed. Some bouncers are getting stroppy about the 'dress sneakers' like Colorado even, so its best to chuck a pair of shinnies on.
Steel capped boots aren't allowed either.
Go as you please. No standards at all!! I'm not kidding. Though as I said before the city is pretty spaz about people going alternative or being 'overdressed'.
The usual is some titty top with pants or a skirt or if in the Irish bars with jeans.... whatever!
Directions: All within walking distance really. A $5 cab to the valley from the city (and the Palace Backapackers Hotel). Or one train stop from Central Station (next to the Palace).
