On the outskirts of the town you'll find this huge and magnificent castle called Versailles. A few years ago you had to go there by bus or take a guided tour departing from a fixed point in Paris (which you can still do, if you'd like to), but now you can get there very easily & quickly by train, all by yourself. The RER (regional train, which is linked to the metro but reaches farther places) takes you there in a very short time and you just have to walk a little to reach the impressive castle.

Versailles is beautiful to visit and you should spend the entire day there. The only thing I don't like about it is that you have to pay to see almost each building separately. The entrance to certain areas is restricted unless you buy a more expensive ticket, which I consider unfair because it's already expensive to get in. The entrance to its wonderful garden has to be paid separately, too (so I just looked at it from the outside LOL).

An audio-guide is included in your entrance fee (=it's free, wow!!) so you can better appreciate what you're looking at in case you're not on a guided tour.
