"The Gardens" Ludwigsburg Things to Do Tip by keeweechic

Ludwigsburg Things to Do: 25 reviews and 59 photos

Originally Duke Friedrich II, the later King Friedrich, wanted Ludwigsburg Palace to be his summer palace. He had the neglected gardens completely laid out and changed after 1798. The southern gardens were laid out to be cheerful and the northern gardens were supposed to be romantic and exotic.

During the time of King Wilhelm I von Wurttemberg, the gardens were neglected as he showed no interest in them and eventually turned parts of the gardens into orchards in the first half of the 19th century.

While these gardens were lovely the day I was there, the weather was not and I have later seen photos of these gardens on a sunny day and they are superb.
