  The Spanish Garden
by KennetRose

Well, would you Adam and Eve it? As they say in London. A quite delightful garden - two actually, one formal Spanish garden with palms and Moorish facades, one studiedly natural with rustic bridges and a pair of flamingoes - high above one of London's busiest and most fashionable shopping streets!

It's on the roof of the former Derry & Toms department store (now Marks & Spencer and other shops) in Kensington High Street. From down below you wouldn't know it was there and indeed, many people who have lived nearby for years don't know it's there.

By night it's home to a nightclub, but by day anybody can visit if they know where to go. Where to go is the rather drab entrance of the offices round the corner in Derry Street. Check in with the security bod, sign the book and take the lift to the sixth floor. There's no entrance charge, they just like to know who's up there.

The nicest surprise London has to offer.
