Wander the streets of Mdina! This was 1 of THE highlights for me, especially after being in busy Valetta. There are many tours that can be booked in Sliema-St. Julian's, etc, but don't waste your money! Take 1 of the local buses (Bus 80 or 81 from Valetta, Bus 65 from Sliema/St. Julian's) which will be giving you contact with the "local" environment as well as saving you alot of money. Mdina is a walled hilltop city, and was once the old capital of Malta. In medieval times, it was the most popular place for the Maltese aristocracy to reside. It is so peaceful in Mdina, and the views over the island are spectacular. Using the local buses, you can also ake a stop on your way to or from Mdina to see the famous "Mosta Dome" in Mosta, and you could also visit the Ta'Qali Crafts village. At the crafts village you can watch the glass blowers (blown glass is a specialty of Malta), and they have silver filigree and Maltese lace as well (all specialties of Malta). Try to go to the crafts village before 10 AM (opens at 8 AM) before it gets too crowded, and don't forget the Mosta Dome closes around 2-3 PM for an hour.
