"MARIENSAULE & FRAUENKIRCHE" Marienplatz Tip by Helga67
Marienplatz, Munich: 122 reviews and 196 photos
In front of the city hall, you'll find a column topped by a gilded statue of the Virgin Mary as Queen of Heaven. It was made by Hubert Gerhard, a sixteenth-century Dutch-born sculptor whose work is an ubiquitous feature of the city.
In the back, you can see the Frauenkirche.
With its distinctive pair of onion-domed towers ? one of which can be ascended by elevator for a view over the city ? the Gothic Frauenkirche, seat of the local archbishop, is the focus of the city skyline.
