"Under the lime trees" is the name of East Berlin's representitive street, which leads from the former Castle (which got blown up during communist times and was replaced by the "Palast der Republik" - the most ugly building I've seen in my life!) to the Brandenburg Gate, passing by the "Forum Fridericianum" (an area with buildings from the time of Friedrich the Great).
(The representative street of West Berlin is called "Kurfürstendamm", I wrote about it in one of my shopping tips.)
