Favorite thing: Tartinijev trg (Tartini circus) is named by the famous citizen of Piran, Giuseppe Tartini (1692-1770). The circus is situated at the place of previous small town port which was filled up.
St. George Cathedral, which reigns above the town, was probably built in the 12th century. In the 14th century it was completed to its present size, and later on in 1637, it was renovated in a Baroque style. The bell tower was added in 1650, and it is a smaller scale copy of the San Marco Campanile in Venice.
St. George, the patron saint of the town, was a Christian prince and knight from Capadoccia.
