Poulnabrone Dolmen, County Clare: 13 reviews and 24 photos

by hevbell

A 5000 year old megalithic tomb in the middle of the Burren. It was excavated in 1989 and the remains of more than 25 people found buried inside. Poll na bró means "hole of the grinding stone" and a dolmen is a tomb chamber made from vertical stones with a large capstone. The one here weighs about five tonnes

Like many of Irelands ancient sites you can just walk right up to it as it just sits in the middle of a field.

Directions: signposted from the R480, 8km south of Aillwee
