"Walk around Sultan's Mosque" Singapore Things to Do Tip by DanielF

Singapore Things to Do: 1,995 reviews and 3,531 photos

There is a large Muslim community in Singapore. Sultan's Mosque is the main Islamic temple in the city, but there are about 80 more. The present building is not particularly old: it was completed in 1929 to replace a former most modest mosque built in the South East Asian style. The new mosque came complete with golden domes and turrets, like right out of the 1001 Nights Storybook. Seen from the palm tree-line promenade in front of it, it looks particularly exotic.

Entrance is allowed to tourists, provided you respect the usual rules of courtesy: modest clothes, shoes off, etc.

Directions: Sultan's Mosque is located near Arab Street, the heart of the Muslim District in Singapore.
