This tough looking cowboy will obligingly stand for a photo op, but he isn't real.

Calico is full of re-creations that give fun, flavor and a sense of the old west, American style. It is a small place and though I've heard comments that it was disappointing, it seemed to me to be well done and not as commercial as I expected.

I've been to "real" ghost towns and can say that Calico is much more fun and informative. Here you not only get to see how life was, back in the day, you also get details of the life once lived in this town and the history of silver mining in the 1880''s.

Unique Suggestions: The cost to enter may change since this was written but a the moment it is $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for kids 6-15, not unreasonable in my opinion. If this seems a "tourist trap" to you, then just drive on by.
