For great Colonial-style food check out Shields Tavern. Nat and I had the sampler platter and it was great. It included a chicken fricasse served in a hollowed loaf, duck and andouille gumbo, carrot fritters, potted Virginia ham in a biscuit, and a wonderful salad of mixed baby greens with a shallot and Riesling-based vinaigrette! It was outstanding. I also had a sample of some Colonial ale, which topped off a truly satisfying meal.
