Carolus Boromeus church.

The Carolus Boromeus Church was a part of a whole complex that the Jesuits built at the present Hendrik Consciencplein.
Actually the square named different before but earned its contemporary name to the celebration of Hendrik Conscience, son of a French who came to live here when Napoleon invaded our country.

Facts and figures:
The architecture outside is early Barok style or sometimes called "Jesuit Barok".
Hardly any church of this kind has been built in such a short period as this: 1615-21... 6 years!
The interior is Barok 17th century and late barok 18th century

Special things to visit:

The relict of Johannes Nepomuc, first saint of Prague. More about it in the travelogues.

The lace museum: Wednesdays and Thursdays afternoons you can have for a very democratic price a look in the local lace museum where ladies still are practicing this skill and are very willing to explain you in detail all the secrets and know hows of this famous piece of cloth-art.

If you arrange a guided visit you can have a look into the huge collection of marvelous antique Priests cloths. With gold brocate sewed in 3D on the cloths. You will learn how it is done.

On a guided tour you can visit the crypt in the basement of the church and learn about the escape route of the Jesuit priests in old times.

You can free visit the church and enjoy the Rubens designed Appel chapel or Rubens chapel.

Unfortunately over 40 ceiling paintings made by Ruben's atelier got destroyed in a huge fire in 1718 after lightening hit the church.
Also the white carrera marble was totally destroyed.
If you want to know how it did looked like before the huge fire then go visit the Rubens house.
In the first room you entery you will see a painting of the interior of this church before the fire.
Marvelous it must have been, but it was too costly to have it restored in its original way.
