Whiting General: 3 reviews and 1 photos

Favorite thing: For decades Whiting has presented one of the most memorable July 4th parades that I can remember. Everyone from near & far crowd in along 119th St. to view the colorful floats and bands and social groups. It creates such pride among the crowd to see friends and family members as they march by waving their hands and shouting greetings to the on-lookers. When the parade has ended (a few hrs)everyone proceeds to the park at the lake (Michigan)for fun times at the carnival that comes into town each year, or to begin the family picnics which last the entire day, awaiting the finale of spectacular Fireworks! The crowds are never disappointed with this celebration; I even hear people talking about their plans for the next year as they're leaving the park when all is over. Come join us next time; you won't be disappointed and you'll never forget the experience.

Fondest memory: I like to share an event that is hosted by the Parks Department in December. Just after the holidays there's a gathering in an empty lot in town where the used Christmas trees are piled high and wide. Residents come bundled up to participated in the traditional 12th day celebration; sipping on hot chocolate or cider and singing carols together. It's a wonderful time to meet and reflect on our blessings & friendships. The event is climaxed with the burning of the trees; it's awesome, and peaceful.
