Fondest memory: SYNOPSIS OF THE TRIP

Sunday: Fly to Portland, uneventful accept for drive to Rockland (2 hours)
in my father-in-law's van -- he was flying faster than the plane on which
we flew to Portland!! The good news is, the radar they use in Maine wasn't
quick enough to pick him up

Monday: GREAT wind and POURING rain!! We don't have our sea-legs yet,
so we're a little tentative about using the head. We're told that we're doing
over 8 knots; is that fast??? All I know is I can't stand up straight!! No
one wants to sing any 'show tunes' with me. Am I ever going to dry out and
get warm????????? Nobody knows that Boone's Farm Wine is good except for
Herb and I

Tuesday: Gorgeous blue skies, but no wind. We tack up and down the coast
(that includes tacking the lunch from side to side of the schooner). It's
3 o'clock, time for Boone's Farm, and one or two of the other passengers
not only are singing show tunes with me, but they think that Boone's Farm
is good

Wednesday: Perfect sailing weather -- strong winds, bright sun!! We're
really moving now at over 9 knots, and the side of the schooner is taking
on water!! Boone's Farm at 3 o'clock, and hey, guess what, I find another
couple of souls that will sing show tunes!! And for dinner, we had tons of
lobster on a wonderful, isolated island. Can it get any better than this

Thursday: Oh Lord, another cold front is moving in. Rain, rain everywhere
and it's damn cold. 58 degree water spraying into my face is NOT my idea
of a good time. Time to go below and read a good book. Of course, I'm worried
about getting seasick, but it's okay, even though now we are over 9 knots.
The next time I hear the words 'Prepare to Come About', I'll know to move
the camcorder case off of the beam we have it sitting on, which is above
my top berth. It makes a terrible noise as it impacts with my head!!

Friday: Sun and wind, who could ask for more. My sneakers (which have
been wet since the rain on Monday) have finally dried out. Shore leave early
in the morning -- guess what we did -- procured more bottles of Boone's farm!!
AND, the best part is, we have just about all the women on the boat singing
show tunes during the 3:00 Boone's Farm hours. Isn't this the life?? I also
had already paid our quarterly premium for the life insurance, so I wasn't
worried when Herb was climbing the rigging to the topsail

Saturday: Back into port after catching a strong wind. Rumor has it we
were over 10 knots!!!! All I know is . . . . we were still clutching a bottle
of Boone's Farm and singing those damn show tunes

Coming back from the airport, just wish I could have tacked to the starboard
side and cut off that semi!!!! Life is good . . . . Maine was FUN
