"KONA COFFEE" Kona Coffee Tip by KiNyA
Kona Coffee, Kailua-Kona: 2 reviews and 2 photos
'What makes Kona coffee so special? It's hand-picked so each coffee cherry is judged ''red-ripe'' before it leaves the tree. It's mountain grown above 800 feet where a protective afternoon cloud cover maintains optimum temps and humidity. It takes 500 pounds of coffee cherries to make 100 pounds of processed Kona coffee.
Kona coffee is sold as 100 percent Kona or as less expensive Kona Blend. Legally, the blend contains at least 10 percent Kona coffee. Read labels ? Hawaiian coffee is not Kona ? other islands grow it too. Estate coffee is grown and processes on one farm; the owner controls planting, picking, pulping, miling, roasting and packaging. Slod separately, Kona peaberry coffee is when a cherry yields only one round seed.«
The person on the right is Nancy. She grows coffee, so I've seen how it goes at her place. When coffee rips, it's all hand-picked (these pictures are comming soon, I just have to scan them?). OK, the picture above is showing, how Nancy dries coffee. She puts coffe on wire net and then wait?? wait?.. and wait?.. until husk fall away. The person next to Nancy (my sister) has some final products (that Nancy sells) of Kona coffe in her hands.
