The Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge is one of those tranquil idyllic places where the pace of modern life slows down. Hard to imagine that the first atomic bomb was detonated only 25 miles away from here at Trinity Site. There is no real bosque (forest) as a Belgian expects, we call the cottonwoods large shrubs. The Rio Grande supplies water for the shallow lakes and marshes. We saw lots of sandhill cranes and geese, even one kingfisher! But there is lots more wildlife (that we didn't get to see) such as bald eagles and wild turkeys.
