"Not Pretty or Quaint" Mesquite Favorite Tip by keeweechic

Favorite thing: I cannot say that Mesquite is a pretty or a quaint city, and it struggles to be even interesting. Most residents do not even seem to know the history of Mesquite. Unlike a lot of Texas cities smaller than Mesquite, the historic square in 'downtown Mesquite' is very much a 'blink and you miss it' area and requires a magnifying glass to find its early significance. Apparently there used to be a lovely old Railway Station which was torn down, for whatever reason, like so many other old buildings in Mesquite. Generally the area is flat and sprawling.
There are more than 1,115 acres of parks and numerous lakes, large and small, all scattered about the area and occasionally you can see a brave attempt at trying to create colour in the public gardens within the area, however the summer in Texas is harsh and not a lot survive the long dry spells in summer and the frosts in the winter. For the residents, it supplies all that is needed in services and recreational activities but as a tourist attraction it does not promote much appeal.
