Looking for that Australian animals experience? Like to get up close and personal with a koala bear? Chat to a cockatoo? Watch a wallaby?
It's easy, just drop in to Blackbutt Reserve, right in the middle of the suburbs.
Here is a natural experience you will remember. Like in the aviary where you walk through a double gate into their domain and they fly all around you (behind perspex)without being frightened. Then there's another, and another etc.
You will find all types of birds here. Ones that I haven't seen anywhere else such as pheasanat coucal, banded stilts, certain pigeons and curlews.
Then, there are others that you'll probably never see elsewhere like the tawny frogmouth. And let's not forget the Eastern Quoll, I'll bet you've never seen one of them in the wild.
The area, of 182ha, is set in bushland with picnic and barbecue facilities and has several bushwalks if you want to stroll and see the eucalypts. It's open seven days a week and, best of all, it costs NOTHING!
It is appreciated however, if you drop a few coins in the donation tin.
As value for money though, it's one of the better things you can do in Australia.
