"Tuomiokirkko Cathedral" Helsingin Tuomiokirkko (Helsinki Cathedral) Tip by ayesh

This church, the Lutheran Cathedral, is definitely the face of Helsinki. It took 22 years to build this white landmark and was finished in 1852. The design was made by Carl Ludvig Engel.
About 85% of the Finnish population is a member of the Lutheran Church, so the church represents far more than just Helsinki.
It is situated on the Senate Square, which is the most important square in Helsinki and shows her neoclassical style not only through the church but also throuhg the university and the Senate Building.
A statue of Czar Alexander II of Russia stands in the middle of the Senate Square.

Address: Senate Square, Unioninkatu 29
