"Do you want cheap Tshirts for people back home?" Chinatown Tip by jujuking

Chinatown, New York City: 9 reviews and 12 photos

All kinds of shops owned by Chinese - thus, called China town.

There is your fish store, veggies store, jewelry store, knick-knack stores and those famous T-shirt, sunglasses and designer knock-off bag stores.

After all that shopping and you spent all your dough, check out the Chinese restaurants. These are not like your regular, greasy take-out Chinese food in your neighborhood. The food is cheap but it's really, really good. You never had Chinese food this good before, trust me.

What to buy: If you know your Gucci, Prada, LV, etc, then check out China Town.

Ok, there are more than fake bags, there are fake watches too.

But these shopkeepers are very careful now days because of the police crack downs.
They usually have cheap imitation watches at the front but all the good fakes, the ones you can't tell apart from the real stuffs, are in the back. The guy in the front will show you a catalog and he will contact the guy in the back via walkie-talkie and bring the good stuff out to you.
These watches are not in the $20 range, they are a bit more costly. However, instead of paying thousands or hundredes, you can get a nice fake for about $80 - $100.

If you are into cheap souvneir shopping and you will feel guilty if you don't buy something cheesy for your folks at home then you can't beat dozen t-shirts for like 10 bucks!

What to pay: It's good to haggle here. Don't be shy. The worst thing that could happen is that you walk away and buy the same thing somewhere else.

Directions: Take the Subway - the traffic there is a nightmare!
