The underground tours are legendary and rightly so. My tour guide was an ex-miner and his knowledge was fascinating.
You get to ride in exactly what the miners went down in and feel the atmosphere beneath. Claustrophobics need not apply.
Comfort was not something that was catered for in the pursuit of money and walking past the crib rooms and seeing the working conditions only reaffirmed my intention never to become a miner.
Stories like before the war when a miner was hurt and the accountant would be waiting at the top, as the victim was stretchered out, to find out exactly when he was injured because that's when they stopped paying him! No HR support there.
Another interesting statistic is that there are 300 kilometres of roads underground and 87 stop lights, 84 more than in the city itself!

Directions: Other side of the railway line - ask anyone.
