"When at local or hotel..." The Gambia Local Custom Tip by ZoeB

The Gambia Local Customs: 41 reviews and 48 photos

When at local or hotel restaurants, local musicians might come round and play at your table. They are playing for a tip. I was sat at my table one night and there was a newly arrived couple who didnt realise and the Gambian guy played his beautiful instrument continuously waiting for a tip.

You have to remember that this may be the only means of income therefore be considerate and even if you just give a few dalasis it will make their day. Many Gambians that work in the tourist trade only work in the tourist season and therefore when there are no tourists they have no income.
