"Praça do Comércio" Praça do Comércio - Terreiro do Paço Tip by travelmad478

This plaza is located at the water's edge, at the southern end of Baixa (the city center). An imposing equestrian statue of Dom Jose is in the center, and the central post office is located on one corner. There is a helpful tourist office in one of the buildings on the west side. The monumental scale of this square, and the Baroque buildings surrounding it, reminded me a lot of the great square in St. Petersburg where the Hermitage is located. Unfortunately, the Praça do Comércio isn't a very congenial place to sit or stroll: pretty much all there is to do is look around and then walk on.

Address: Rua Augusta 2, 1100-053 Lisboa
Directions: At Praça do Comércio
