Be careful when you take a walk outside the large villages in Alaska, Norway and mainly in Spitzbergen !
Polar-bears might look cute in the Zoo - but here they are absolutely dangerous and during the winter they also sometimes come down to the villages at night, searching for food.
In 2011 a young man, who spent the night in a camp, was eaten by a polarbear in Spitzbergen. That camp had a guard with a rifle who should have been on the watch all night, but obviously the polarbear was a bit smarter than the guard !
I was lucky never to meet a polarbear in Svalbard / Spitzbergen - we also got there only in the warmest summertime in June and July, when Polarbears would go into the remote mountains.
These polar-bear-pics were taken in Schönbrunn - Vienna's Zoo and finally digitally set into snow ;-))
