"Where do i start!? Such a huge..." Australia Favorite Tip by littlebush

Australia General: 527 reviews and 649 photos

Favorite thing: Where do i start!? Such a huge country...although most of it is outback!, For me, the best part was Western Australia(WA)(see my seperate Perth page for West Coast details) just had a much more 'untouched' feel about it and i felt represented the true Australia of how it was before the Europeans arrived.
The East coast was was full of things to do and places to visit. It is home to such places as Byron Bay, a hippy small town home to some of Australis best surf on the east coast. The Gold Coast, a strip of coast for the package holiday with sky high hotels and busy nightlife! The Great Barrier Reef, the worlds largest living organism! Fraser Island, the worlds largest sand island. The Whitsunday islands, which are beautiful islands to sail around and stop on white beaches and the Daintree Rainforest, a huge woodland where certain types of plant and insect can onbly be found on the planet.
Of all of Australias cities, Perth was my favourite(see my Perth page), and Sydney a close second with its famous great beaches, the Opera House and harbour. Darwin was also a nice small city.
After seeing Uluru on TV so many times, it was great to watch the sun rise standing at the base of the rock and it is absolutely huge and definately worth the effort to the centre of the country to watch it change colour as the sun sets and rises!
The Northern Territory was very 'outbacky' and pretty desolate but still an interesting place with many a rock formation with a million year old story.
Melbourne was a nice city but i didnt really stay long enough to fully appreciate it, the same with Adelaide.

Fondest memory: Too many to pin point one!..backpacking in Oz means meeting hundreds of people...mainly British, Candian or Dutch! and drinking a hell of alot!...which i did plenty of both! but if i was to pick out the highlights, these would be the best : Fraser island, hiring a 4x4 vehicle and camping on the worlds largest sand island. Great barrier reef, Snorkelling the most colourful reef i've ever experienced. Daintree rainforest, thick rainforest in northern Queensland with abundant wildlife. Kalgoorlie, A Gold mining town in WA with an 1800's feel about it. Perth, with its great climate and compact city and great nightlife. Dunsborough, beautiful peacefuk beach and town. The Abrolhos islands, WA, Reef islands 50km off the shore where many a 17th century shipwreck has come aground. Monkey Mia, with the interactive Dolphins. Coral Bay, a tiny town with a lovely beach and reef. Cape Range National Park, Turquoise beaches and numerous kangeroos. The Kimberley, Australias last great wilderness with its numerous gorges. Darwin, a popular Winter city with good nightlife and Uluru, not just a rock in the ground but a fascinating sacred site to the Aboriginals.
