"I strongly suggest you visit..." United Kingdom Favorite Tip by Shetlander

United Kingdom General: 621 reviews and 470 photos

Favorite thing: I strongly suggest you visit the Grampians in Scotland and the Spey River Valley. Sites of many Scotch distilleries. The Highlands are gorgeous and primarily uninhabited. The most beautiful town for setting and shopping is Killin. Edinburgh is a great city for sight seeing and shopping. The Castle is fantastic and you can spend several days here. If you like visiting islands the Inner Hebrides are beautiful, not crowded and small trips from the mainland. The Outer Hebrides are more remote but worth the trip - you can see standing stones - smaller than Stonehenge, but totally accessible.

Fondest memory: My fondest memory of the UK is when I lived there in 1978-1979 and attended the University of Aberdeen. It is a great jumping off place - to the Highlands, to the Orkneys, to the Shetlands [hence my moniker], to Glasgow and to Aberdeen. Beautiful landscape, abandoned castles, dramatic sea cliffs [inspiration for Dracula], but most of all wonderful, warm people.
