Botticelli's Birth of Venus (Uffizi)
Even if you haven't been to the Uffizi and seen this painting in person, you're probably familiar with it from greeting cards, posters or television. However, there's nothing like seeing it in person!
Botticelli's painting represents a Classical myth rather than a Christian story, and brought in a new wave of appreciation for ancient mythology.
I stood in front of the Venus for awhile and was amazed at how delicate she looks on the canvas rising out of the sea on the shell being driven toward the shore by the wind gods. Ahhh! Bellisima!
