"Michelangelo's David" David Statue Tip by acemj
David Statue, Florence: 73 reviews and 101 photos
The original David is housed in the Galleria dell'Accademia (Accademia Gallery, Via Ricasoli 60), not in Piazza della Signoria where the copy stands. Honestly, the rest of the collection is pretty forgettable, but the statues by Michelangelo are undeniably sublime. The David is arguably the most famous statue in the world, so I went in preparing myself to be disappointed, but I came away flabbergasted! The size and detail of the statue are amazing. I've read that Michelangelo used to study cadavers in order to learn the intricacies of the human body. Look at his hands, look at the veins in his arms. It's unbelievable.
