Il Duomo - Santa Maria del Fiore, Florence: 251 reviews and 528 photos
While the Duomo was completed in 1436, the facade that you see in the picture wasn't added until the 19th century in order to complement Giotto's campanile. Both are done in the Gothic style. The interior is surprisingly simple, done in Florentine Gothic, however much of its most precious artwork has been moved to the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo (just across the street).
Without question, however, the dominating feature of this church is Brunelleschi's imposing yet graceful dome. I climbed the 463 steps to the top and the views were worth the effort.
