"Hungarian National Museum..." National Museum - Magyar Nemzeti Múzeum Tip by acemj

What a great museum. I went to Budapest without knowing much about the history of the city or of Hungary. The language barrier made it difficult to discover these things by talking to locals. The museum solved my problems. It is basically, set up as a chronology of the history of Hungary beginning in about 1000 A.D. Incidentally, Hungary's history goes back much further (in fact, there were Roman gladiator shows in Budapest in the 2nd century A.D.).
You'll walk through time and discover Hungary's long and often tragic history.

When I visited, there was a 20th century photography exhibit that was pretty amazing too. It was incredible to see pictures from the second world war and the ruinous destruction that Budapest endured. Seeing the Chain Bridge sunk in the Danube and the devastation of war was extremely eye-opening.
