Beguinage -In this area of Belgium the female followers were tolerated and they lived in Beguinages. They lived similar to nuns but without the vows of obedience and chastity, but not the vow of poverty. They could also leave the beguinage at any time. Women came from all sorts of backgrounds whether rich or poor. This picture is taken in the grounds, which is full of poplar trees.
The Church is lovely, a place to sit, light a candle and to think.
