The Hohensalzburg Fortress towering above the city and with great view, I think this is one of the highlights. The fortress is the largest in Central Europe and as well as most likely being the continents best preserved medieval castle. Built between 1066 and 1088, it has been the ancient strong hold of various rulers.

There is the tower, torture chamber as well as the impressive state rooms. You can take a guided tour to see the usual out of bounds sections.
