St. Kilda, Melbourne: 7 reviews and 6 photos

St Kilda is a day trip in itself. For years it was Melbourne's red light district with drunks, drugs, girls and shady characters, but the suburb has slowly being rejuvenated. Fitzroy St today you're more likely to be sipping on a wine and eating a gourmet salad.

There is a string of average beaches running from St Kilda back into the city, including Middle Park, Albert Park and Port Melbourne. Luna Park, near St Kilda Beach, is a small old-fashioned fairground that's fun for kids. Historically, St Kilda was a leading seaside playground.

On Sundays the esplanade hoses a collection of art and craft stalls and is said to be one of the oldest arts and crafts markets in Melbourne. It?s the perfect setting for a scenic stroll among the palm trees. Acland Street is renowned for its traditional continental cakes and pastries and will do damage to any diet.

From the city, catch a #15 or #96 tram from Swanston St; or it's a 20-minute drive south along St Kilda Rd.
