MARIN COUNTY, California: 7 reviews and 6 photos

The original natives of Marin were the Coast Miwok Indians. In 1579 Francis Drake and his crew first set foot in Marin and were the first known Europeans to do so, followed by the Spanish 20 years later. The first Spanish settlement was established in 1817 but the Mexicans took control in 1821. Marin was divided into great ranchos until the US occupation of California began in 1846 and huge cattle ranchos gave way to smaller ranches.
