H3 Ranch, Live Hickory Wood Grill. It is founded on the rich and lively history of Fort Worth and the historic Stockyards District. This restaurant is amazing, the food and the decor. The smell is what gets you when you walk in the door. The Live Hickory Wood Grill offers a wide variety of steaks, rainbow trout, 'lip-smackin' ribs', chicken, spit-roasted pig and much more. Their wood roasted salsa (their specialty) is sensational. On the far wall there are 3 moose heads, the middle one's rear end, is found on the other side of the wall in the saloon.
The staff are wonderfully helpful. Overall the atmosphere is great and in keeping with the feel of the west, the food is exceptional and the prices are very reasonable. I believe it gets really noisy on weekend evenings.
Favorite Dish: I had the Original Nachos with spit-roasted pork which is served with guacamole, pico de gallo and sour cream and diced pickled jalapenos. I got through half of it.
The special of the day was Mexicali Steak, a 6oz piece of sirloin (char-grilled)with Ranchero sauce, served with 2 beef and cheese enchiladas and salad. Many of the dishes, such as Wife of Kit Carson Soup and Oatmeal Flapjacks, date back to the cattle driving days of the last century. It is one of Ft Worth's most unique steak houses.
Oh, on their fresh bread is to die for, just don't fill up on it first like I did. On our second visit I opted for the spit-roast pork tacos which were sensational... I never want to go back to ordinary tacos again, and the best Spanish rice I have ever had. Always check the special of the day - well worth it for taste and price.
Address: Located at the corners of Main and Exchange street
