"Ponte Vecchio - The Old Bridge" Italy Things to Do Tip by keeweechic

Italy Things to Do: 1,470 reviews and 2,257 photos

Ponte Vecchio is known as The Old Bridge because it is the oldest bridge in Florence and dates back to around 972. It was later destroyed and rebuilt in stone, then destroyed once more by the savage flood in 1333. The present structure was rebuilt in 1345, again in stone.

This is the city's most recognisable bridge which spans the Arno and is home to a large selection of jewellers and gold and silver dealers, whose shops have been in business since 1593. I couldn?t help but make some wonderful purchases here.
