"stay for more than one or two..." Stony Brook Favorite Tip by BeverlyTyler

Stony Brook General: 1 reviews and 1 photos

Favorite thing: stay for more than one or two days. Relax here and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. Stony Brook, along with the Setaukets and Old Field is part of the Three Village area. This is not a typical tourist area but being only 60 miles east of New York City on Long Island's historic north shore, it is accessible by train or car. Come and spend a weekend or a week any time of the year but especially in the spring for the flowers and trees, in the summer for the beaches and historic sites, and in the fall for the colors and festivals. I think you will enjoy it.

Fondest memory: The sunsets over Stony Brook Harbor to the west, and the morning mists that hang just over the water to the north with the muted pastel colors of Stony Brook Creek and the marsh lands marked and accentuated by the brightly painted colors of the 'Gamecock Cottage' at the entrance to the Creek. PHOTO: ENTRANCE TO THE STONY BROOK VILLAGE SHOPPING CENTER. THE MAIN FEATURE OF THIS FEDERAL-STYLE CRESCENT-SHAPED CENTER IS THE GREEK REVIVAL POST OFFICE WITH A MECHANICAL EAGLE THAT FLAPS ITS WINGS EVERY HOUR ON THE HOUR.
