"paid a visit to Stonehenge..." United Kingdom Favorite Tip by Kallista

Favorite thing: paid a visit to Stonehenge ?'hanging stones'? ? it looks compellingly immense and silent. This famous prehistoric stone circle, a World Heritage Site, stands alone 16 km north of Salisbury on the dry chalk elevation of Salisbury Plain.

Why did the people, living 4000 years ago, build this place of worship? We were told by the guide stationed there that the formation of this Megalithic Monument is somewhat linked with the cult of the dead and with sun-worship. One of my friends commented that its just a couple of stones ? but my buddy and I felt chills just by looking at it from a distance.
