  great old architecture in Portland
by richiecdisc

Portland is a city that gets little respect. Lodged between all-world-city San Francisco to the south and hip caffeine-infused Seattle to the north, people lose sight of its many charms that go beyond it being just the city of roses. With a historical downtown full early 1900s architecture, the trendy Pearl District, an elaborate innovative mass transit network, and some fine city parks, Portland is regarded as one of the most livable cities in America. Voted one of the top walking cities in the US, this compact town is perfect tourist fodder as well. Let's not forget Portland's seminal part in the craft brew revolution and being currently home to a plethora of brewpubs that will make even the most avid beer hunter's head spin. Add to all this the fact that this big city with a small town feel is within a couple hour's drive of incredible nature in the form of alpine mountains, rugged coast, gushing waterfalls, and one vastly deep lake. Portland might not ever be an international destination but that's fine with the locals who would be happy if the growing number of those discovering it would fail to fall under its considerable spell.

Directions: Right off the Interstate at the north end of the Oregon and the first thing you will come to if arriving from Washington State.
othercontact: Wish I could tell you more, but
