If you would like to see a piece of truly Communist architecture of the Stalin era, try to see the central building in Red Square - former Coal Mining Industry Information Center and now - the College of Culture and Arts.
Don't forget to ask the doorman to allow you to take pictures inside.
You can see this wonderful ceiling mural at the entrance hall, impressive columns, massive doors and nice corridors.
Everything was built in 1950-1953 to last for at least a thousand of years :-)
They used the basement of the former St.Nickolas Cathedral that was blown up in the thirties "by the will of the people" to make way for this magnificent "information center".
In exchange, the authorities allowed the construction of a new church on the outskirts, at 111 International Street. Now it is St.Nickolas Transfiguration Cathedral. It was dedicated on February 15, 1951.
Now the building of the former Information Center belongs to Shevchenko National Uniiversity.
Address: 1 Red Square
Directions: Down from Kotsyubinsky Street
