"Strange as it may seem, if you..." Japan Things to Do Tip by meriholiday

Japan Things to Do: 736 reviews and 1,308 photos

Strange as it may seem, if you spend a Sunday in Tokyo: HARAJUKU is the place to go to see the Japanese Rock N Rollers giving it their all trying out Elvis Presley songs and jeans outfits, or Johnny Rotten punk, Bob Marley Reggae, Tex-Mex, Hip Hop or whatever style of live music suits their karaoka-like passion. Possibly around 12 to five (some of them have other lives supported by god only knows what).

But the more culturally unique events are when the Japanese celebrate various Shinto/Pagan/Animistic/Buddhist festivals. It various from one place to another. Again do the research. Japan is a land that is filled with importation of many customs and notions of ceremony from various places of the world. For example, I have read that there are small temples dedicated to fertility with dedications to wooden phalluses and vulvas that most likely carried over from the Indian temple devotionals to I think it is called 'lonnies/longans' female genitalia and male genitalia and fertility.
The Japanese society can be very controlled/ reserved and activities of some elements of self expression can best be observed when the Japanese display themselves artistically using music, art or writing as their medium or when they are having fun drinking beer 'BEERU' with their friends.
