"Leal Senado Square " China Things to Do Tip by keeweechic

China Things to Do: 765 reviews and 1,190 photos

This is one of the loveliest and interesting sites in Macau located in the heart of the city?s shopping area. The square is perfect for pedestrians, as only a small amount of cars are allowed in.

Monte Fort (Fortress of S. Paulo do Monte) was built in 1617-26 on the hill overlooking St Pauls Church by the Jesuits. The canons cover the Inner and Outer Harbours and the Chinese border. The guns were used only once, when the Dutch invaded Macau in 1622. Today the fort is a public park, with a great view of St. Paul's and the city. There is a lovely little grotto on entering the park.

Address: Largo do Senado
