Fondest memory: i would like to share with you some finnish xmas traditions :)) it so warm & lovely time with the family!!! xmas is a celebration for the birth of jesus christ. the xmas tree is the center of everything, so it is placed in the living room and the family gathers around it to eat and drink and chat & play, and open presents:)) a christmas tree is brought in from outside to melt a couple of days before xmas eve. when it melts from the ice, it brings a pleasant smell of nature into the room :)) in our family, everyone is taking part in the decoration of the tree. we have also a xmas tree outside with lights :)) then we make a little altar near the xmas tree, which is the little stall in bethlehem where jesus was born. there are joseph, jesus' father, maria, jesus' mother, the jesus child, and the three wise men. the three wise men were sheperds, and met an angel from the sky who told them that 'your saviour is born'. then they followed a bright star on the sky to find the stall of jesus child. they brought all kinds of presents to the child, gold and myrrh, which is still now burned as incence in the orthodox churches. giving presents to each other on xmas originates from this.
