Apart from all Gaudi attractions I already mentioned you really must see the Picasso museum. Early Picasso's can bee seen here. It is near the Barrio Gotico with the marvelous cathedral, an area where you should wander through. The cathedral is open to visitors and usually there are groups of people in front of the cathedral dancing the Sardana, with is a local dance. Sit, watch en enjoy... Also the small streets behind the Ramblas are full of nice shops. Don't wait till midday, shops will be closed due to siesta. On the other hand, shops are open in the evening... Use midday for a nice long lunch somewhere. The Ramblas, which ofcourse cannot be missed while in Barcelona, are full with bookshops and flowershops and places where you can buy small pets but don't forget to also visit the La Boqueria market (on the righthand side if walking towards the harbour). Here the people from Barcelona do their shopping. Look at the huge piles of fruit and vegetables, the fresh fish and meats... If you get hungry you can get al kinds of sandwiches with fish or chicken or sausage at one of the foodstalls. If you want an impression of Spanish architecture you can go to the Pueblo Espaņol. This is an open air museum with examples of architecture from all over Spain. It is kind of touristic but now you're here anyway.. If you just want to sit and watch the water, go to Port Vel, the old harbor at the end of the Ramblas. This area has been renovated and you can sit here at one of the terraces to have a drink and look at the boats and water. On the whole I think Barcelona is a lovely place that is seen best if you walk from one place to another. On your way there is so much to see that you would miss if going on the subway...
