Once you get to Venice, if you do not have a map, just ask the information/tourist booth for a free one. Maybe nowadays, they might charge one euro, but I highly recommend one.

Have an itinerary plan: where would you like to go first? Museums? Piazza di San Marco? Take a ride on a gondola? Visit the stores? Restaurants?

My friends and I planned to walk the entire town and get the Piazza San Marco by foot in a matter or 1-2 hours. It worked. We saw sooo much in so little time!
