"go and see Amsterdam, Hollands..." Netherlands Favorite Tip by sandravdp

Netherlands General: 435 reviews and 419 photos

Favorite thing: go and see Amsterdam, Hollands capital city! The city has old small houses, a lot of shops, restaurants, bars, discos, a lot of people from all different countries, beautiful musea, canals, theaters and cinemas. Also nice is taking a canaltrip by boat, taking a tram to the zoo 'Artis' or renting a bicycle (watch out for dangerous trafic though, it saver to go by bike to the nearest recreation park between Amsterdam and Haarlem. It is called Spaarnwoude and has nice small villages like Spaarndam, Haarlemmerliede and Penningsveer with small harbours, farms and cows.

Amsterdam lies in the northwest of Holland in the province North Holland. Here there are nice old towns to visit like Haarlem and Alkmaar. And here you can also go to the beaches of e.g. Zandvoort, Bloemendaal, Bergen aan Zee, Noordwijk, Wijk aan Zee and Castricum.

Further in the north there are the islands (Texel, Vlieland, Terschelling, Ameland, Schiermonnikoog and Rottummerplaat) of Holland, you can go there by boat or to some you can go by foot, when the water is very low. You can't do this without a guide! Here you can visit the Waddensea to where you can discover seals, krabs and all kinds of birds.

In southwest Holland you must visit The Hague -Holland goverment city- you can pay a visit to our government, musea and the old city of the Hague. Also a place to recommend is Rotterdam, the biigest Harbour city of the world.

Do visit the southern province of Limburg. Its capital city Maastricht is really cosy and romantic. Old roads with round stones everywhere, nice markets, caves with bats, mushrooms and dripping stones in the surroundings of the city and lots of castles and beautiful castlegardens.

Go visit natureparks like Biesbos (birdpark, where you can come by boat) in the south west of Holland and the Veluwe (naturepark where you can go on bicycle of horseback and see the dear, birds, rabits and foxes in the woods). The Veluwe is to be found in the middle of Holland in the province of Utrecht.

The province of Drente (east of Holland) is nice to go, cause there are beautiful fields with romantic sheepkeepers adn olffashioned villages with farms and groseries in the style of the 19th century.

The province of Friesland (upper noth of Holland) is famous in winter for iceskating on the big lakes and in summer it's nice to go sailing and fishing at the lakes.

Fondest memory: Going to a party in summer st the beach of Bloemendaal or Zanvoort. Eating in a beachhouse and finishing at sunset and then enjoy yourself at the party with lively music and candlelight!
