"People often associate the..." United States of America Off The Beaten Path Tip by OnMyOwnPath

People often associate the Eastern Shore to mean Maryland and the popular Ocean City, but a short drive south of there will take you to the Eastern Shore of Virginia, and to the only beach in that region of Virginia, Assateague Island. You drive to Chincoteague, where it is reknowned for its annual pony swim, and then pay a small entrance fee to enter Assateague, where you can then walk, ride your bike, sunbathe, swim and enjoy the relative quiet solitude compared to the large tourist trap beach up the road in Maryland. For a better reference to the Eastern Shore of Virginia, check out the book Off 15. It's by a local author, and only available in that region.
